Actually, I don’t really have a sweet tooth. I don’t really like chocolate, (I know, Im insane). Nor can I stand really sweet and rich goodies, like brownies, truffles, cream whatever.
But for those who do, there are alternatives to this guilty pleasure..say for example these:
and these:
What are these you may ask? These are card candies. They are hand made embellishments meant for you to stick on a blank card for a quickie card. I made my first ones for the convention, and I had no idea what they are or how to made it. I joined that swap simply because, well… ITS A SWAP! haha and the fact that i HAD TO join each swap. tee hee
Anyhow, 6 months later, I stumble on a card candy swap, and thought, hey lets give it a whirl (again). I signed up back in november and didnt do anything with is until recently.
So as I was cleaning and reorganzing my stash of STASH, I came across some half used scrapping kits - Just Delightful, and Friend & Family. Normally I HOARD. ALOT. But the problem is I realized I had about 10 packs of old SAB SS KITS, and/or retired SS kits. I knew I had to give up some. SO I did. It took alot of effort, but I took the stickers of the 2 packs and started making card candy with them.
I took the stickers of the kit, stuck them to chipboard, and cut around them. Then I sanded the sides to make them blend.
For the just delightful set, I coordinated “infinite Goodness” and ” Delight in Life”, for the friends and family set, I used “All in the Family” set. So Im not TOTALLY cheating LOL. I sponged most of the pieces to soften the look. I used various punches to make different embellishments, and that about sums it all!
So if you have lots of left over scrapping kits, think about making card candy! its pretty quick and easy!
I normally don’t use pastels. So when I decided to use them for my friend joanne’s swap, I barely remembered how to use it.
Actually I did forget how to use it. I think I wrecked 3 cards before I remember that I had to put the color on the image THEN blend it with the blender pen.
anyways, here’s the card:
I know it’s not the bestest card. But really, I had a brilliant idea, a great layout, and then somehow, it ended tlike that. Im blaming it on the pastels. LOL.
Colors: barely banana, bashful blue, black
stamps: a little birdie told me, celebrate everything
technique: brayering, masking, faux stitching
accessories: grosgrain ribbon (cream), 1 1/8 circle punch, post -its, black marker
To do it: cut a two 2.25X2.25 square, arrange it diagonally place circle punch out in the “blank square”. brayer with blue. alternate it and brayer with yellow. Do for all 4 squares. Using the circle punch, punch through a post it, and use it to mask the square, stamp image in the circle. color image, and add faux stitching. finish off by tying a ribbon and adding sentiments.
its alot of work, but gave a pretty cool effect. again, i blame all yuckiness on the pastels
Happy New YEAR!
Between school and work, I haven’t really stamped.
Proof: I just mounted my preorder, and hostess set.
And boy, have i been rusty! Nevertheless, I took some time and did a little card for a swap. My friend Joanne had an one layer card swap. Not that I’m a million layer frou frou kinda gal, but one layers has never been my speciality. Anyhow, have a look and let me know what you think:
Stamps used: infinite goodness, sanded BG
Colors: so safron, really rust, close to cocoa, more mustard
Accessories: sponges, SU marker
techniques: masking, sponging, doodling
How to do it? : first take a post-it and cut into 2.5×2.5, stick it onto the card. Stamp Sanded BG with really rust. Then I sponged all the colors in. After, I take the post-it out, and stamped the pear in, sponged colors in and created some shading. Finally, stamped the verse as well as sketch the border with really rust marker.
REALLY EASY!.. but the question is: does it show that its THAT effortless?
So awhile ago, I recieved a mysterious pm on SCS saying I got “elfed”
Of course, that was when I was in the midst of finals, and to be honest, I couldnt care less what this whole elfing business was all about.
Actually, the first time I read the pm, I sweared it said “you got effed”. And trust me, at that time of exams, projects and pure desperation, that was exactly how I felt. hehe (yes… i sometime - well most of the time, have a mouth of a sailor)
anyways, according to the PM I was supposed to send two gifts to two other people. So I thought, who who who? Then it boiled down to this: I picked two people who I “talk” to, but have never really sent a card, RAK or the sort to.
And so I dilligently prepped my package, and mailed it asap, hoping it would get there by Xmas. Sure enough, it arrived, and immediately, they figured me out. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but I did attempt to be a secret elf.
So Julie, and Natasha (reneejul1 and tashers) yes Im your (not so secret) elf.
I hoped you enjoyed the packages, and have a merry xmas.
and for the rest of you, this is a pic of the package I sent (courtesy of Julie’s super duper photography skills):
and the focal point of the gift: the gift card holder:
if you would like the instructions, go to Julie’s blog, as Im too lazy to type out the instructions hahaha
Now…. I wonder who is my elf? You better fess up! When I get the package, I TOO, will figure you out. (at least I hope) lol
I didn’t have a chance to take a picture.
My bird was cooked and I stuck my meat thermometer in there, at 170 C it was cooked nicely!
It was nice and brown, I guess it was either that easy or I had beginners’ luck!
Mind you, I was pretty paranoid, and sat infront of the oven for 3/4 of the time jus to make sure its not getting burnt. hahaha
And the guys must have been hungry because the minute I said turkey is ready to be carved, I changed to my “party” clothes, and took my camera out, went back to the kitchen, and people were devouring it already, so sadly, I do not have a picture of my first turkey. But you can imagine that it had to be somewhat decent when all was left after the party was one part of the wing, and some bacon bits
so yes, you know its Christmas when miracles happen!
but then again we didnt hear from our guests today, so they all might be dead by now.. LOL… (i being the responsible hostess, didn’t eat much, just in case someone does get sick, I can drive them to the emergency room, so in a sense I was safe!) … I mean a little salmonella don’t kill people, do they? haha
HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS FOLKS!
ETA: i had a couple of questions on how I seasoned my bird: all I did was buttered it up with real butter, seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic salt, and then layered it with strips of bacon. Instead of water on the tray, I put 2 cans of chicken broth to start the basting
Yes, I dont blog much.
and when I do, its never stamping related.. hahah
but I have to share:
So I’m asian. My traditional family don’t celebrate western holidays (ie: X’mas, Thanksgiving, easter etc). So its fair to say I never really ate turkey before. I mean REAL turkey, not the whole deli stuff, or the turkey sandwich from McDonald’s.
Then I met Mike. The total opposite of me. His family are really big into Holidays, and they eat turkey, ham and whatever holiday foods you guys eat. So I ate real turkey the first time 3 years ago.
3 years later, today. Im making my first bird, we are having a christmas party at our place for a party of 16!. (and may I add, I was “VOLUN-TOLD” ) and boy is it giving me a complex!
EVERYONE i talked to gave me their “family secret recipe” (which isnt really a secret if you are going to blab it out to everyone, but anyways…)
and each recipe is so different. The whole week, I was on the net trying to figure out what and how to cook it. SO today, I woke up to get the bird ready. and trust me, stick your arm into the bird from the behind isn’t all that pleasant. The whole time I felt like I was violating him. I couldnt help but apologizing to mr .bird.
I just placed my bird in the oven and it looks like this:
Boy, I hope thats what it supposed to look like, otherwise my party of 16 will be starving.
maybe I should make them sign a waiver before eating it?!?
I’ll take a pic of the progress in a hour or so.
As promised, im here to show you some cards I was working on, its a little hokey-looking, but really, its kids cards, and Im not really good with kids… or cards or, well you get the idea…
this is for my friend Joanne’s swap. We were supposed to make cards using simply scrapping kits. For my set, I used Primary colors. I dunno what has gotten into me, as I don’t normally make kids birthday cards (and no puns about my biological clock ticking, and my subconciousness telling me i want kids etc etc ) , but nevertheless, here’s my attempt.
A close up of the card. The colors I used: ballet blue, real red, wild wasabi, whisper white.
highlight of the card? well, there isnt much except:
its supposed to be a cupcake, and how did I make it you ask? I took the round tab punch and punched it with close to cocoa CS. Then I punch the top “icing” part with the confetti dd paper in the primary colors package. The flame for the candle is a part of the petal in the 5-petal punch in the spring flower punches.
I SWEAR I had this idea in my head, and didn’t case it. Then I thought.. “Peg, you are never that original” , and after the 300-hand cutting 5 petal fiasco (back in june for convention) I gave up being innovative..
so I went to the gallery on SCS and lo and behold! someone thought of it.
But I swear, I thought of it before checking SCS…really I did! hahahah
nevertheless, i hope y’all like it. boy, its been a long time since I really sat down to stamp… how I miss it
